Current work
I am a researcher and data scientist with seven years’ experience in consulting. I am now pursuing a PhD in biostatistics at the University of Cambridge, supervised by Professor Stephen Burgess and Dr Dipender Gill. My research focuses on statistical, causal-inference and machine-learning methods for genetics and drug-target discovery.
Governing question
A technically impressive model can still answer the wrong question. Predicting what will happen is not the same as explaining why it happens, estimating the effect of an intervention, deciding what something is worth, or choosing what to do under uncertainty.
Writing
I use this site to publish essays and analytical memos that explore these distinctions in practice, alongside occasional notes on businesses, books and other questions that interest me.
